The Chutney Soca Monarch competition will be celebrating its 30th anniversary with a global broadcast, as the competition’s owner Southex joins forces once more with corporate partner bmobile, to ensure audiences around the world experience the extravaganza.
This year, 30 performers will battle it out in the semi-finals on February 8. Only nine will move on to challenge reigning champion Rick Ramoutar at the competition’s grand finale on Carnival Saturday (March 1, 2025), at Skinner Park, San Fernando.
CEO of Southex, George Singh, the driving force behind the Chutney Soca Monarch, confirmed that the event will be distributed by the US-based International Film Group.
Singh noted that the partnership will bring the electrifying energy of Chutney Soca to audiences worldwide via platforms like AppleTV, Roku, Android TV, and more. International journalists have been invited to cover the event, further amplifying the global reach of Chutney Soca music.
Meanwhile, TSTT’s CEO, Kent Western, asserts that bmobile’s continued partnership with Southex for “this treasured cultural competition” clearly underscores its commitment to Trinidad and Tobago's rich cultural heritage.
"At bmobile, our support for the Chutney Soca Monarch transcends traditional sponsorship,” Western stated. “It is a strategic investment in the cultural lifeblood of Trinidad and Tobago.”
The TSTT CEO added: “This 30th anniversary signifies not only a celebration of music but also a bold statement of our nation's cultural prowess on the global stage.”
Over the last 30 years, the Chutney Soca Monarch has become a beacon of cultural pride and economic opportunity, transforming lives and establishing an industry that supports a wide array of talents across the region including employment for many artistes, musicians, dancers, prop builders, and music producers.
Reflecting on the humble beginnings in 1996, George Singh recalls the modest "wooden stages" that launched a transformative journey for many, highlighting the life-altering impact of the competition.
“Every person who has won Chutney Soca Monarch has said it's a life-changing experience,” he shared. “The opportunities for gigs, international travel, global exposure, and the respect they gain are incredible. They've become millionaires in their own right, and have gone on to achieve great things.”
Acknowledging bmobile’s invaluable support throughout the competition's history, Singh emphasized the vital role the telecommunications giant has played in nurturing the Chutney Soca genre and its artists.
“We have grown into the most important Indo-cultural event in the world,” he said. “Chutney Soca music is arguably the youngest and fastest-growing music genre in the Caribbean, and bmobile has been a major contributor to that development. Their support goes beyond the competition—it has benefited the entire industry and ultimately contributed to the development of all the artistes.”
The Southex CEO asserts:
“Chutney Soca Monarch 2025 promises a night of electrifying performances and cultural celebration, as it extends its influence to a global audience, solidifying its position as a cornerstone of Caribbean musical heritage.”
