Scores of spec­ta­tors and rev­ellers came out in their num­bers as J’Ou­vert cel­e­bra­tions kicked off in San­gre Grande yes­ter­day morn­ing.

From as ear­ly as 4 am, the main street, from the Po­lice Sta­tion to the Old Post Of­fice, Brier­ley Street, Ojoe and Fos­ter Road taxi stands, and part of To­co Road, were jam-packed with res­i­dents danc­ing and hav­ing fun.

The streets were flood­ed with peo­ple, in ad­di­tion to those who filled the main pave­ment, all hav­ing one ob­jec­tive, which was to en­joy their J’Ou­vert with mu­sic sup­plied by DJs at tem­po­rary bars set up along the route.

Po­lice, both uni­formed and in plain clothes, were seen at every cor­ner along the East­ern Main Road. Of­fi­cers re­port­ed an in­ci­dent-free J’Ou­vert and es­ti­mat­ed the crowd to be 20,000.

Busi­ness own­ers said the sales for J’Ou­vert morn­ing had been the best in years. - Ralph Ban­warie
