A Special Reserve Police (SRP) officer chased and apprehended a suspect minutes after he snatched his money from his vehicle after he left a bank in Marabella yesterday.
Police said around 9.45 am, the officer withdrew $30,000 from First Citizens Bank (FCB) in Marabella and placed the cash in a white envelope on the front passenger seat of his vehicle.
He then drove to the Unipet Gas Station along the Southern Main Road
to refuel.
While returning from the cashier, he saw a man opening the front passenger door of his vehicle and removing the envelope with the
money.
The suspect ran off, but the officer gave chase and, with assistance from officers assigned to the Marabella Police Station, Municipal Police and the Southern Division Task Force, intercepted and detained the suspect.
Police only recovered $25,000 as some of the money fell and scattered during the incident.
Investigations are continuing.
