SRP officer chases, detains bandit who stole $30,000 from his car

A Spe­cial Re­serve Po­lice (SRP) of­fi­cer chased and ap­pre­hend­ed a sus­pect min­utes af­ter he snatched his mon­ey from his ve­hi­cle af­ter he left a bank in Mara­bel­la yes­ter­day. 

Po­lice said around 9.45 am, the of­fi­cer with­drew $30,000 from First Cit­i­zens Bank (FCB) in Mara­bel­la and placed the cash in a white en­ve­lope on the front pas­sen­ger seat of his ve­hi­cle.

He then drove to the Unipet Gas Sta­tion along the South­ern Main Road

to re­fu­el.

While re­turn­ing from the cashier, he saw a man open­ing the front pas­sen­ger door of his ve­hi­cle and re­mov­ing the en­ve­lope with the 

mon­ey. 

The sus­pect ran off, but the of­fi­cer gave chase and, with as­sis­tance from of­fi­cers as­signed to the Mara­bel­la Po­lice Sta­tion, Mu­nic­i­pal Po­lice and the South­ern Di­vi­sion Task Force, in­ter­cept­ed and de­tained the sus­pect.

Po­lice on­ly re­cov­ered $25,000 as some of the mon­ey fell and scat­tered dur­ing the in­ci­dent.
