Member of Parliament for St. Augustine, Khadijah Ameen MP, is calling for the immediate return of the Police Mobile Unit at Curepe junction.
The St Augustine MP made the call after a senior official from the United Nations High Commission for Refugees and a business executive were robbed while driving through Curepe.
In a news statement issued early today, MP Ameen expressed her concern about the safety of citizens and tourists as crime continues to spiral out of control.
“Curepe is a hub where the East West Corridor meets the North South Corridor,” MP Ameen said in her statement.
“Many commuters and businesses will be safer with the presence of the police on a 24-hour basis,” she asserts.
The St. Augustine MP noted she has made numerous appeals to Government to address escalating crime through various press releases, parliamentary contributions, and requests for meetings.
She also pointed to correspondence she has written on the crime situation to the Prime Minister, Minister of National Security and Commissioner of Police.
