St James man charged with robbery and kidnapping

Jaleel Ash­ton, 26, of Long Cir­cu­lar Road, St James was ar­rest­ed and charged by of­fi­cers of the West­ern Di­vi­sion for sev­er­al rob­beries and kid­nap­ping.

Ash­ton was cap­tured by po­lice af­ter an op­er­a­tion was con­duct­ed fol­low­ing sev­er­al re­ports from fe­male vic­tims. Ac­cord­ing to po­lice re­ports, the women stat­ed they were tak­en to Fort George Hill or oth­er de­sert­ed ar­eas by the sus­pect, pur­port­ing him­self to be a PH taxi dri­ver in a sil­ver Nis­san Note – reg­is­tra­tion PDR 4017.

The sus­pect would then as­sault and rob his vic­tims. The of­fi­cers, ob­serv­ing a pat­tern in the sus­pect’s ac­tiv­i­ties, co­or­di­nat­ed an op­er­a­tion be­tween 6 pm and 11 pm on No­vem­ber 25th 2020. The ve­hi­cle was in­ter­cept­ed at the traf­fic lights on West­ern Main Road and Colum­bus Cir­cu­lar, West­moor­ings. Sev­er­al iden­ti­fi­ca­tion pa­rades were con­duct­ed where the sus­pect was re­port­ed­ly iden­ti­fied by three per­sons.

Mr Ash­ton faces the fol­low­ing charges, two counts of rob­bery with vi­o­lence, one count of rob­bery with ag­gra­va­tion, three counts of kid­nap­ping, one count of as­sault oc­ca­sion­ing a wound and ma­li­cious dam­age.
