A woman was robbed at gunpoint inside her Phillipine home on Sunday evening as armed criminals struck across south and central Trinidad in a string of weekend robberies.
Police said the 43-year-old woman was seated in her living room when two armed men entered through an open metal door and announced a robbery.
The suspects escaped on foot with electronics and jewellery valued at more than $11,500.
The incident occurred around 6.15 pm along Sunkist Drive.
The suspects were described as slim-built men of African descent, one wearing an orange coverall and black fisher’s hat and armed with a silver-coloured firearm, the other dressed in black and carrying a black firearm. Police said they stole a Samsung A36 cellphone, a PlayStation 5 with controller, a gold-coloured chain and three watches.
Police processed the scene, recovered workable fingerprints and canvassed the area for CCTV footage. Investigations are continuing.
Hours earlier, in Upper Carapichaima, a couple was robbed by three masked men at a residence in Chickland Village, Freeport.
Police said the incident occurred around 3 pm while the victims were inside the house.
One of the suspects was armed with a firearm. The men stole cash in local and Canadian currency, several mobile phones, gold rings and Republic Bank debit and credit cards before locking the victims in a room and fleeing. Police searched the area and requested the assistance of crime scene investigators.
Meanwhile, in the Biche, a 33-year-old Plum Mitan man has been charged after confessing to stealing cash and personal documents from a dwelling house.
Police said the victim, who resides at Newlands Village, discovered on December 27 that $40,000, his driver’s permit and identification card were missing from his home office.
Later that night, the suspect was held by Mayaro CID officers with the victim’s permit and more than $27,000 in cash and later admitted to the offence.
Investigations into the armed robberies remain ongoing.
