A stu­dent from a sec­ondary school in Tu­na­puna was ar­rest­ed by po­lice on Fri­day, af­ter he broke in­to a neigh­bour’s house and stole a quan­ti­ty of al­co­hol and jew­ellery.

The 17-year-old was held af­ter of­fi­cers viewed the video footage record­ed on the vic­tim’s home se­cu­ri­ty sys­tem.

Po­lice said the vic­tim, aged 43, of Clax­ton Bay, works as a Nurs­ing As­sis­tant at the Er­ic Williams Med­ical Sci­ences Com­plex, Mt Hope.

The woman left for work around 5.40 am on Jan­u­ary 30 and was alert­ed via a text on her phone around 7 am that an in­trud­er had en­tered the home.

Rush­ing home af­ter alert­ing the po­lice, the woman ar­rived around 8.40 am, and up­on check­ing, found a bath­room win­dow on the south­ern side of the prop­er­ty, pried open.

She lat­er dis­cov­ered a quan­ti­ty of jew­ellery and al­co­hol, miss­ing.

Af­ter view­ing the CCTV footage, of­fi­cers car­ried out a search for the sus­pect, who was found near­by, with the stolen items in his pos­ses­sion.

He was ar­rest­ed and tak­en to the Cou­va Po­lice Sta­tion pend­ing fur­ther en­quiries. —ALP
