‘Super Muslim’ charged with possession of gun and ammunition

Ak­ili Aquil, aka ‘Su­per Mus­lim’ of Wa­ter­hole, Co­corite, ap­peared vir­tu­al­ly be­fore Deputy Chief Mag­is­trate Ag, Cher­ril-Anne An­toine in the Port-of-Spain Mag­is­trates’ Court on Jan­u­ary 12th charged with pos­ses­sion of a firearm and am­mu­ni­tion.
The ac­cused was not called up­on to plea, bail was not grant­ed and the ac­cused was ad­vised to ap­ply for bail be­fore a Judge in Cham­bers, as this was his sec­ond firearm of­fence.
Ac­cord­ing to po­lice re­ports, around 10 pm on Jan­u­ary 10th Cpl Khan, PC Clement, and WPC Nor­eiga stopped the ac­cused at Wa­ter­hole, Co­corite, where they al­leged­ly found in his rear waist­band, one Tau­rus pis­tol fit­ted with a mag­a­zine and nine rounds of nine-mil­lime­tre am­mu­ni­tion.
The firearm and am­mu­ni­tion were seized and the sus­pect was ar­rest­ed and charged with pos­ses­sion of a firearm and am­mu­ni­tion on Jan­u­ary 12th. The ex­er­cise was co­or­di­nat­ed by Ag Snr Supt Kelvern Thomp­son and co­or­di­nat­ed by Supt Smith, Supt Hen­ry and ASP Baird. The mat­ter was post­poned to Tues­day 9th Feb­ru­ary 2021.
