A female suspect in the death of baby Salileen Ramsaroop was still in police custody up Friday evening.
Investigators are still awaiting advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions on how to proceed with the investigation.
The 30-year-old suspect was taken into custody two Wednesdays ago, after she allegedly confessed to feeding the nine-month-old baby insecticide.
However, an autopsy at the Forensic Science Centre in St James found that the baby’s cause of death was pulmonary edema.
According to the Yale Medicine website, the condition causes fluid to accumulate in the lungs, making it difficult to breath. Investigators are still awaiting the toxicology report.
The suspect allegedly told police that she became frustrated because the baby was crying uncontrollably and fed her a syringe of Malathion insecticide.
At the time, the baby was staying at the home of her step-grandmother at Busy Corner, New Grant. Police went to the home where they seized a bottle of Malathion, the baby’s bottle and a syringe.
The baby’s funeral was held on Thursday at Boodoo’s Funeral Home in Penal.
