A Laventille man remained in police custody yesterday, after he was detained following reports that he was involved in several robberies and break-ins at several supermarkets along the East West Corridor.
The 56-year-old—who has addresses at Prizgar Lands, Laventille; Picton Street, Woodbrook; and Shende Street, San Juan—was held in connection with multiple reports of larceny and other larceny related offences.
The suspect is known to drive around with other persons to supermarkets such as Massy Stores, Tru Value, West Bees and others, and also to visit several pharmacies—where the group would break into trucks and other vehicles transporting and/or delivering goods from companies such as VEMCO, HADCO, AMCO, and Charles Chocolates, and loading the contents into their car before escaping.
Officers said the stolen items include but are not limited to cheese, chocolates, butter, toiletries, toys, pharmaceuticals, curry and money.
