The decomposed body of missing taxi driver Sheraz Ali was discovered in a remote forested area on Sunday evening.
Police were led to the scene by a 26-year-old suspect who remains in custody.
The suspect, a car washer from School Trace, South Oropouche, reportedly went to the police station with his mother on Friday—days after Ali disappeared.
He told officers he had stabbed Ali twice during an argument inside a car, after which Ali drove away.
Police arrested and detained the man at the Siparia Police Station while the search continued.
Around 5:30 pm on Sunday (May 25, 2025), the suspect informed an officer he wanted to lead them to Ali's body.
Officers followed him to a precipice in a remote forested area, about 80 feet off a dirt and grassy road at Total Avenue, Gerahoo Trace, Fyzabad. There, they found Ali’s body in an advanced state of decomposition.
Ali, who would have turned 65 on Tuesday (May 27), was last seen around 9 am on May 19 by his older brother at Seukaran Street, Siparia, driving his brown Nissan B14.
Ali’s brother reported him missing the next day.
On May 21, police found Ali’s vehicle intact and abandoned in a forested area off Quinam Road, Siparia.
Due to the condition of the body, the district medical officer was unable to determine whether it bore any visible injuries. An autopsy is scheduled at the Forensic Science Centre this week.
Homicide Bureau of Investigations Region 3 is continuing enquiries.
