A day after the body of 65-year-old Ezla Theodora Sandy was found at her home in Tacarigua, elderly residents yesterday expressed concerns for their safety and are calling on more police patrols.
Sandy was believed to have been the first person murdered for the year.
Her body was only found at about 2 pm on Sunday by neighbours who went to check on her at her house at Sapphire Drive, off Crown Street.
A door to the home was found opened.
Police were told that Sandy was last seen alive on Old Year’s night.
An autopsy has been ordered to confirm the cause and time of death.
Speaking with the Guardian Media during a visit in the area yesterday, an elderly woman, who said she was a good friend, said she was concerned.
“We are hearing all sorts of things this morning. She lived there...not really upstairs where they found her per se because it was unfinished...but the person had to be marking her to know when she would have been there alone,” the neighbour said.
“My daughter just call me to tell me make sure and lock my door after she hear the news. This is worrying and frightening. We didn’t even know what happened till the next day. I just know I saw police and them there but I was washing clothes, and didn’t take on anything,” she added.
Another elderly resident called for higher visibility of police officers and patrols in the area.
“This can happen to anyone of us because we can all be targets. With the savannah right there too it have all kinds of people there and we need more police in the area,” she said.
