Today marks 180 years since the arrival of East Indian ancestors to the shores of Trinidad and Tobago—a milestone steeped in sacrifice, endurance, and cultural richness. In a message commemorating Indian Arrival Day 2025, Minister of Finance and Member of Parliament for Fyzabad, Davendranath Tancoo, paid tribute to their journey and legacy.
“Their journey was one of hardship and hope, sacrifice and strength—and their legacy continues to shape the vibrant cultural fabric of Trinidad and Tobago,” Minister Tancoo said.
He described the nation as one born of many roots, where diversity forms the foundation of strength.
“Like the notes of a well-composed song, our diverse heritages blend to create a melody that is uniquely Trinidad and Tobago. This harmony is our strength,” he asserts.
Calling on the public to reflect on the day with gratitude and pride, Minister Tancoo encouraged all citizens to look to the future with unity and determination.
“I extend my warmest wishes to all citizens on this important occasion,” he said. “May we continue to grow together in peace and prosperity.”
“May God bless you, and may God bless our beloved Republic of Trinidad and Tobago,” he added.
