A 60-year-old taxi driver was robbed of cash and a cellphone by a passenger in San Fernando on Monday. Police said the victim was at the Borde Narve taxi stand on Mucurapo Street, sitting in his gold Nissan Almera around 6.05 pm, when a man approached and hired him for a trip to Borde Narve. Upon reaching the Borde Narve recreation ground, the passenger asked the driver to return to San Fernando, saying he would pay him upon arrival. The driver agreed. However, when they arrived at Prince of Wales Street, near Faith Centre, the man announced a robbery and stole $679, and a grey Samsung cellphone valued at $900. The suspect then exited the vehicle and fled on foot in an easterly direction. Sgt Seecharan and officers of the San Fernando Enquiries and Operations Unit responded to the scene. PC Ballierajh is leading investigations.
