A taxi driver who picked up four passengers in Curepe Junction on Tuesday night to transport them to Chaguanas was killed in a robbery attempt.
Robert Cudjoe picked up a full trip comprised of three men and a woman in Curepe around 11 pm on December 6.
The four reportedly asked to be dropped off at Chaguanas Main Road.
It is alleged that as Cudjoe reached the Warrenville Walkover, Cunupia along the Uriah Butler Highway one of the men pulled out a firearm and announced a hold-up.
Refusing to hand over the keys and cash without a fight, Cudjoe struggled with the gunman but was shot during the altercation.
As he slumped forward, he lost control of the car which crashed into the median.
The three men later exited the car and fled on foot.
The lone female passenger was not injured during the incident.
Passers-by who stopped to render assistance contacted the Emergency Health Services who rushed Cudjoe to hospital.
He later died while undergoing treatment.
