A 16-year-old Form Four stu­dent was de­tained ear­li­er to­day af­ter po­lice dis­cov­ered cannabis and a con­cealed weapon in his pos­ses­sion at a sec­ondary school in Va­len­cia.

Around 8:20 am on Mon­day 17th No­vem­ber 2025, an of­fi­cer con­duct­ing a rou­tine foot pa­trol on the school com­pound ob­served the stu­dent act­ing sus­pi­cious­ly. Con­cerned by his be­hav­iour, the of­fi­cer alert­ed the school’s Safe­ty Of­fi­cer and Prin­ci­pal and re­quest­ed their pres­ence to car­ry out a search.

While es­cort­ing the stu­dent to the Prin­ci­pal’s of­fice, the of­fi­cer no­ticed him hand­ing a rag to an­oth­er pupil. The of­fi­cer in­ter­vened and re­trieved the item, which con­tained a translu­cent plas­tic bag hold­ing 15 pack­ets of cannabis. The sub­stance was lat­er weighed and amount­ed to 10 grams.

A fur­ther search re­vealed a con­cealed pock­et knife ap­prox­i­mate­ly four inch­es in length.

The Prin­ci­pal and Safe­ty Of­fi­cer con­tact­ed the Va­len­cia Po­lice Sta­tion, and of­fi­cers from the C.O.P.S Unit re­spond­ed. The stu­dent was tak­en to the San­gre Grande Po­lice Sta­tion, where his moth­er lat­er ar­rived.

He was sub­se­quent­ly trans­port­ed to the San­gre Grande Re­gion­al Hos­pi­tal for a Po­lice Med­ical Cer­tifi­cate and lat­er con­veyed to the Book­ing Cen­tre in Mara­cas/St. Joseph, pend­ing place­ment at the Ju­ve­nile Suite af­ter con­sul­ta­tion with Du­ty Coun­sel.

Charges are ex­pect­ed to be laid against the mi­nor with a court ap­pear­ance sched­uled for to­mor­row.
