A 16-year-old boy is in po­lice cus­tody af­ter he re­port­ed­ly stabbed a man to death as he tried to pro­tect a fe­male rel­a­tive on Fri­day af­ter­noon.

Po­lice said the woman was in her car in Cou­va around 4.30 pm when Ak­il Sylvester, 36, got in the same car and be­gan ar­gu­ing with her.

Dur­ing the ar­gu­ment, Sylvester got a cut­lass and be­gan chok­ing and beat­ing her.

The teenag­er who was near­by saw the at­tack and got a knife, stab­bing the man sev­er­al times.

The woman and teenag­er went to the Cou­va Po­lice Sta­tion and re­port­ed what hap­pened.

Re­gion Three Homi­cide in­ves­ti­ga­tors were called in with a dis­trict med­ical of­fi­cer who de­clared Sylvester dead.

Po­lice found and seized the cut­lass and knife be­lieved to be the mur­der weapon.

Both the woman and son re­ceived med­ical treat­ment, while the son was lat­er tak­en to the Oropouche Book­ing Cen­tre.
