A 16-year-old boy is in police custody after he reportedly stabbed a man to death as he tried to protect a female relative on Friday afternoon.
Police said the woman was in her car in Couva around 4.30 pm when Akil Sylvester, 36, got in the same car and began arguing with her.
During the argument, Sylvester got a cutlass and began choking and beating her.
The teenager who was nearby saw the attack and got a knife, stabbing the man several times.
The woman and teenager went to the Couva Police Station and reported what happened.
Region Three Homicide investigators were called in with a district medical officer who declared Sylvester dead.
Police found and seized the cutlass and knife believed to be the murder weapon.
Both the woman and son received medical treatment, while the son was later taken to the Oropouche Booking Centre.
