The Min­istry of Works and In­fra­struc­ture has an­nounced that the ad­di­tion­al third lane of the Sir Solomon Ho­choy High­way, from Ch­agua­nas to Chase Vil­lage, is now of­fi­cial­ly open for use by the trav­el­ling pub­lic. The new­ly con­struct­ed lay-by near Bhag­wans­ingh’s Hard­ware has al­so been par­tial­ly opened to ve­hic­u­lar traf­fic.

This de­vel­op­ment forms part of the Sir Solomon Ho­choy High­way Widen­ing Project, a ma­jor in­fra­struc­tur­al up­grade aimed at ex­pand­ing the high­way from two to three lanes in both north­bound and south­bound di­rec­tions be­tween Ch­agua­nas and Chase Vil­lage. The project is de­signed to ease con­ges­tion, im­prove trav­el times and en­hance safe­ty for the thou­sands of com­muters who use the cor­ri­dor dai­ly.

While the new lane is op­er­a­tional, the Min­istry con­tin­ues to car­ry out an­cil­lary and cor­rec­tive works un­der the De­fect Li­a­bil­i­ty Pe­ri­od to bring the project to full com­ple­tion.

These works in­clude cor­rect­ing sur­face ir­reg­u­lar­i­ties, in­stalling pedes­tri­an rails on the new lay-by side­walk, plac­ing guardrails be­fore and af­ter the Ch­agua­nas Over­pass south­bound, ap­ply­ing ther­mo­plas­tic road mark­ings, re­pair­ing joints on the over­pass, milling and paving the south­bound de­cel­er­a­tion lane near Bhag­wans­ingh’s Hard­ware, re­ha­bil­i­tat­ing the ex­ist­ing high­way in both di­rec­tions, and in­stalling Jer­sey bar­ri­ers in front of the Seereer­am Bros. com­pound.

The Min­istry of Works and In­fra­struc­ture thanked mo­torists and com­muters for their pa­tience and co­op­er­a­tion dur­ing the ex­e­cu­tion of the fi­nal works.
