The Ministry of Works and Infrastructure has announced that the additional third lane of the Sir Solomon Hochoy Highway, from Chaguanas to Chase Village, is now officially open for use by the travelling public. The newly constructed lay-by near Bhagwansingh’s Hardware has also been partially opened to vehicular traffic.
This development forms part of the Sir Solomon Hochoy Highway Widening Project, a major infrastructural upgrade aimed at expanding the highway from two to three lanes in both northbound and southbound directions between Chaguanas and Chase Village. The project is designed to ease congestion, improve travel times and enhance safety for the thousands of commuters who use the corridor daily.
While the new lane is operational, the Ministry continues to carry out ancillary and corrective works under the Defect Liability Period to bring the project to full completion.
These works include correcting surface irregularities, installing pedestrian rails on the new lay-by sidewalk, placing guardrails before and after the Chaguanas Overpass southbound, applying thermoplastic road markings, repairing joints on the overpass, milling and paving the southbound deceleration lane near Bhagwansingh’s Hardware, rehabilitating the existing highway in both directions, and installing Jersey barriers in front of the Seereeram Bros. compound.
The Ministry of Works and Infrastructure thanked motorists and commuters for their patience and cooperation during the execution of the final works.
