Three arrested following car chase and gunfire exchange with police

Three men were ar­rest­ed yes­ter­day af­ter a car chase and gun­fire ex­change with po­lice.


The men, all from Monte Grande, Tu­na­puna, were ar­rest­ed af­ter of­fi­cers on mo­bile pa­trol, re­ceived in­for­ma­tion that in­di­vid­u­als trav­el­ling in a sil­ver Maz­da 323 ve­hi­cle, were in pos­ses­sion of firearms.


Ac­cord­ing to top po­lice re­ports, of­fi­cers ob­served the car in ques­tion, trav­el­ling along Bharath Street, Tu­na­puna and a chase en­sued.


The gun­fire ex­change oc­curred af­ter the ve­hi­cle crashed along Cum­ber­batch Lane, Tu­na­puna.


The oc­cu­pants opened fire at po­lice, who, in keep­ing with the Trinidad and To­ba­go Po­lice Ser­vice (TTPS) Use of Force Pol­i­cy, re­turned fire.

The ex­change re­sult­ed in the 26-year-old dri­ver re­ceiv­ing a gun­shot wound to his right an­kle. He was ar­rest­ed and tak­en to the Er­ic Williams Med­ical Sci­ences Com­plex where he was treat­ed and is still be­ing ward­ed.

 

The 18- and 20-year-old oc­cu­pants of the ve­hi­cle were al­so ar­rest­ed.

A search of the car was con­duct­ed and one (1) sil­ver re­volver with four (4) rounds of spent am­mu­ni­tion and one (1) round of live am­mu­ni­tion was found. In­ves­ti­ga­tions are con­tin­u­ing.
