A teenager, a security officer and the owner of a Chinese supermarket were killed on Wednesday night in two separate incidents, bringing the murder count to 125.
In the first incident, during a robbery at Ho Sing Supermarket at Marchin Road, Cunupia, the security officer was shot when he attempted to the stop three bandits from robbing the establishment.
The owner of the supermarket, who is a Chinese national, also was shot.
The incident occurred at about 7 pm.
Police said the security guard, 44-year-old Devindra Maharaj, of Navet Village, Rio Claro, was shot several times in the back. He was pronounced dead at the Chaguanas District Health Facility.
The owner of the supermarket, whose name was not disclosed, succumbed to his injuries at 1 am, at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex.
Police said the getaway car, a grey Honda Accord, believed to be used by the bandits, was found abandoned at John Peters Road in Charlieville.
Officers from Chaguanas police and the Homicide Bureau Region III are investigating.
In the second unrelated incident, a 16-year-old boy was gunned down in Laventille.
He was identified as Matthew Samuel of Wharton Street, Laventille.
According to a police report, at about 10 pm, residents heard several gunshots.
Samuel was later found bleeding from multiple gunshot injuries.
He was taken to the Port of Spain General Hospital where he succumbed to his wounds.
Police are yet to determine a motive for his killing.
