Police are still searching for a group of men who attacked three supermarket workers while they were asleep and escaped with thousands of dollars in cash during a robbery in Scarborough early Monday morning.
According to police, the incident occurred around 2 a.m. at Eday Supermarket on Wilson Road in downtown Scarborough. Owner Liliong Zou reported that three of his employees — Jinhai Zheng, 20, Yaxian Zheng, 49, and Wenzhong Chen, 49 — were asleep upstairs when they were startled by loud banging at the supermarket’s door.
A short while later, about seven men, all armed with knives, entered the building through a window on the western side and went into the room where the workers were.
The suspects demanded cash and began attacking the workers, inflicting several chop wounds. The victims, fearing for their lives, complied. The men then fled with an estimated TT$200,000 and US$15,000. They reportedly left through a door on the southern side of the building.
The injured workers were taken for medical treatment and are said to be recovering. The injuries were not life-threatening.
Crime scene investigators visited and processed the scene.
