A dispute over unpaid entrance fees at the Argyle Waterfall in Tobago ended with a man being chopped during a confrontation on Saturday afternoon.

Police said a 56-year-old farmer from Main Road, Argyle, was leading a group of five people across the river, to allegedly avert paying entrance fees, when he was confronted by a craft vendor. The incident happened around 2.15 pm.

The vendor reportedly told the farmer that it was unfair to bring people into the site without paying, as it would affect his business.

An argument broke out and quickly escalated into a fight. During the scuffle, the vendor allegedly grabbed a cutlass and chopped the farmer.

The injured man was rushed to the Roxborough Hospital and is now in stable condition.

The vendor was arrested and taken to the Roxborough Police Station. Police are continuing their investigations.
