Tobago recorded its seventh murder for the year on Monday night when a Calder Hall man was gunned down near his home. The victim has been identified as 44-year-old Reynold “Butcher” Alleyne of Four Roads, Calder Hall.
According to police reports, around 11.15 pm, Alleyne’s cousin was liming nearby when he heard three loud explosions. Upon checking, he found Alleyne lying in the roadway, unresponsive and bleeding from gunshot wounds.
Alleyne was taken to the Scarborough General Hospital, where he died while undergoing treatment. His time of death was recorded at 11.42 pm by Dr Cudjoe.
Officers from the Tobago Homicide Bureau responded and cordoned off the area as investigations began.
Senior Superintendent Earl Elie told Guardian Media that investigators have not yet established a motive for the killing. Police are expected to review CCTV footage from the area and interview residents as part of their enquiries.
Up to this point last year, Tobago had recorded approximately 23 murders—more than three times the current figure.
Enquiries are continuing.
