A To­ba­go school­boy is now at the cen­tre of a homi­cide in­ves­ti­ga­tion, af­ter an au­top­sy on 70-year-old Leon Scot­land con­firmed he was killed.

The au­top­sy took place yes­ter­day at the Scar­bor­ough mor­tu­ary, just over three weeks af­ter he died.

Se­nior Su­per­in­ten­dent Rod­hil Kirk de­clined to re­veal the de­tails of the au­top­sy, but said the in­ves­ti­ga­tion will now be led by the Homi­cide Bu­reau.

He added of­fi­cers are mov­ing quick­ly as the probe pro­gress­es to the next phase.

The el­der­ly man was in­volved in an al­ter­ca­tion with a younger rel­a­tive on Sep­tem­ber 5 at their Welling­ton Trace home in Ply­mouth.

Scot­land re­port­ed­ly suf­fered a blow in the con­fronta­tion and was tak­en to Scar­bor­ough Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal, where he died the fol­low­ing day.

The teenag­er was pre­vi­ous­ly de­tained by po­lice and missed the first few days of school while in po­lice cus­tody.

He was re­leased on Sep­tem­ber 9 pend­ing the re­sult of the au­top­sy.

Ed­u­ca­tion Sec­re­tary Or­lan­do Kerr has de­scribed the sit­u­a­tion as un­for­tu­nate and said Stu­dent Sup­port Ser­vices (SSS) would help the boy rein­te­grate in­to the class­room.

A rel­a­tive re­cent­ly de­fend­ed the teen’s char­ac­ter, claim­ing he was nei­ther a trou­ble­mak­er nor an ag­gres­sive per­son.

He said the fam­i­ly’s pri­or­i­ty was for the teen to re­turn to school to pur­sue his ed­u­ca­tion and love for sports.
