The To­ba­go teenag­er de­tained in con­nec­tion with the death of his el­der­ly rel­a­tive has been re­leased.

Po­lice con­firmed the boy’s re­lease yes­ter­day, say­ing the re­sults of a foren­sic au­top­sy will de­ter­mine their next course of ac­tion.

The 15-year-old was held by po­lice on Sun­day fol­low­ing an al­ter­ca­tion with his rel­a­tive at their Ply­mouth home on Sat­ur­day.

The rel­a­tive re­port­ed­ly suf­fered a blow to his head and was tak­en to Scar­bor­ough Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal, where he died the fol­low­ing day.

Rel­a­tives told Guardian Me­dia they had been pray­ing for the Form Four stu­dent’s re­lease, as he had al­ready missed the first few days of the new school year.

A close rel­a­tive de­scribed the mi­nor as a tal­ent­ed foot­baller who as­pired to play pro­fes­sion­al­ly.

The rel­a­tive said the boy was not an ag­gres­sive per­son, but had com­plained about pre­vi­ous spats with the de­ceased.
