A three-year-old boy has died in a suspected arson attack in Arouca on Thursday night.

Police said the boy's mother, Geneiel George, was at her Christian Avenue Extension, Windy Hill, Arouca, at around 11.45 pm when a man tried to break open the window to get into the house.

The woman tried to stop the man from entering, but he overpowered her as she fled the home with three of her children to get help from a male relative who lives nearby.

On returning to the home, she realised it was completely on fire. Fire Officers were called in and among the debris were the remains of Jareem George.

No other person was injured in the blaze, however senior police in the North-Central Division have confirmed that searches are being conducted for a suspect.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information is verified.

Region II Homicide investigators are continuing enquiries.
