The Tunapuna/Piarco Regional Corporation (TPRC) has successfully enforced a court ruling, regaining control of the pavilion at Eddie Hart Savannah, Tacarigua, after a prolonged legal battle.

The corporation took action following more than a year of extensions granted to the previous occupant to vacate the premises.

The legal victory stems from a ruling delivered on May 2, 2023, by Justice Avason Quinlan-Williams, which directed the removal of chains, locks and other barriers that had been placed at the pavilion entrance. These obstacles were preventing public access and crucial improvements to the facility.

In the court ruling (Jerry Richards CV2023-01187), the judge mandated that the pavilion be vacated, allowing the corporation to move forward with its redevelopment plans.

After providing ample time for the occupant to vacate voluntarily, the corporation acted in compliance with the court’s directive.

The TPRC, in a release issued on Monday, emphasised the importance of the pavilion as a key part of the region’s recreational infrastructure.

“This action ensures that the Eddie Hart Savannah is developed into a premier, multi-use facility that will serve the entire region,” the release noted.

The planned upgrades are part of the corporation’s long-term vision to transform the savannah into a hub for recreation, sports, economic activity, and cultural events.

In describing the corporation’s plans, the release stated: “The Tunapuna/Piarco Regional Corporation is committed to transforming the Eddie Hart Savannah into the region’s foremost mixed-use space.”

The redevelopment will include modern infrastructure improvements designed to enhance the facility’s functionality and make it more accessible to the community.

“We are taking the necessary steps to ensure that the facility is safe, accessible, and able to meet the evolving needs of residents and visitors,” the TPRC emphasised, underlining their dedication to community development.
