Transport Commissioner Clive Clarke is investigating claims that Licensing officers stopped an ambulance in Tobago during a joint anti-crime exercise, while it was transporting a patient in an emergency.
This comes after a social media user claimed that an ambulance, driving with its siren on and transporting a critically ill patient, was stopped by Licensing officers in Lowlands.
Speaking with Guardian Media on Monday night during a road exercise in Tobago, the Transport Commissioner said he will verify whether the incident happened, as well as who stopped the ambulance.
“One of the things the Licensing officers do not practice is intercepting officers while they are in operation,” Transport Commissioner Clarke stated. “I’m still to verify whether or not the ambulance was stopped because somebody may have suspected something—probably … the TTPS or Licensing officer.”
Meanwhile, in defence of police officers, TTPS Road Safety Coordinator, Sergeant Brent Batson, said the information is one-sided and the incident is being verified.
