Just two days before the semifinal round of the Ultimate Soca Champion takes place live in San Fernando, it was announced that award-winning soca artiste Iwer George has exited the competition.
In a statement issued yesterday, the organisers of the new soca contest said George opted not to give a specific reason for his withdrawal.
Efforts by Guardian Media yesterday to speak with George about his decision to leave the competition were unsuccessful.
The organisers, in the statement, said they respected George’s decision to step away from the competition and thanked him for his participation. They said with his departure, Trilla-G from Dominica, with his hit song Someone Else (Littleboy ft Quan & Trilla-G) has accepted the opportunity to reclaim their position in the competition, setting the stage for an “electrifying” semifinal round, according to organisers. Trilla-G also withdrew from the contest.
Earlier this week, Kern Joseph, known as Trinidad Killa, also had to exit the competition after his idea to perform virtually during the semifinal of the Ultimate Soca Champion (USC) competition was rejected by the event’s organisers.
They said the rules of the competition only allowed for video submissions and virtual performances during the audition phase but contestants had to be present for the semifinals and finals.
Joseph is out of the country. He had planned to do a hologram performance.
Meanwhile, organisers revealed that Amrika Mutroo has been selected as a “Wild Card” entrant, earning a spot in the semifinals after overwhelming fan support and will perform in position number one on Sunday.
The Ultimate Soca Champion will receive a $1 million prize.
