A brazen shooting in the carpark of the luxury Brix Autograph Hotel in St Ann’s yesterday left one woman dead and a TriniBad artiste nursing multiple gunshot wounds.
Police identified the murdered woman as 25-year-old Bridget James. She was pronounced dead on arrival at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital.
In 2019, she was named the Caribbean’s top performer in the ACCA’s Advanced Financial Management Exam.
Police said she was also the girlfriend of TriniBad singer Kalonji, whose real name is Kalonji Arthur.
The Run Up singer was taken to hospital and had undergone emergency surgery yesterday.
The shooting occurred just after 2 pm.
Police said witnesses heard gunfire coming from the car park along Coblentz Avenue. The grey Toyota vehicle was riddled with bullets along the driver’s side and back seat. At least one other car in the parking lot was also hit by bullets.
Officials from the hotel and police officers responded to the scene. No other guests were injured.
Investigators were told the couple had spent the evening at the hotel celebrating James’ 25th birthday.
Four other TriniBad artistes have been killed in recent times.
Meanwhile, police are also investigating two murders in Tunapuna.
In the first incident, police said around 8.35 pm on Thursday, police responded to reports of a shooting along Tunapuna Road, near “Church on the Way,” where they found 50-year-old Richard “Wally” Drayton dead.
He was shot multiple times.
Police are also investigating a murder along the Eastern Main Road in Tunapuna yesterday morning. The victim has only been identified as Kerwin Warner, the owner of a variety store in the area.
Police said Warner, 50, was at his business, located near St Vincent Street, when he was approached by a man who shot him several times about the body.
His son, Kester Warner, 22, was murdered earlier this week while he was at a car wash on St Vincent Street, Tunapuna.
