Makesi Aquan, a final-year animation student at the University of T&T (UTT), has gone to Ghana to participate in the Animafrik Festival.Aquan won the people's choice award at the UTT Animation Student Show held at the Academy for the Performing Arts recently.
His short animation, titled "Project Ninja Slippers," tells of a young boy who is bullied but was able to overcome his fear and gain confidence through an uncanny gift from his grandmother, according to Camille Selvon Abrahams, programme administrator for animation at UTT.
In a statement, Abrahams said close to 250 witnessed the event and the audience included members of the advertising and media industry, artists, designers and filmmakers.Aquan's trip was made possible through a Commonwealth Foundation Grant to screen local and Caribbean animations. Aquan will also visit the Royal College of Art and Design and several award-winning studios in London.
