Make­si Aquan, a fi­nal-year an­i­ma­tion stu­dent at the Uni­ver­si­ty of T&T (UTT), has gone to Ghana to par­tic­i­pate in the An­i­mafrik Fes­ti­val.Aquan won the peo­ple's choice award at the UTT An­i­ma­tion Stu­dent Show held at the Acad­e­my for the Per­form­ing Arts re­cent­ly.

His short an­i­ma­tion, ti­tled "Project Nin­ja Slip­pers," tells of a young boy who is bul­lied but was able to over­come his fear and gain con­fi­dence through an un­can­ny gift from his grand­moth­er, ac­cord­ing to Camille Selvon Abra­hams, pro­gramme ad­min­is­tra­tor for an­i­ma­tion at UTT.

In a state­ment, Abra­hams said close to 250 wit­nessed the event and the au­di­ence in­clud­ed mem­bers of the ad­ver­tis­ing and me­dia in­dus­try, artists, de­sign­ers and film­mak­ers.Aquan's trip was made pos­si­ble through a Com­mon­wealth Foun­da­tion Grant to screen lo­cal and Caribbean an­i­ma­tions. Aquan will al­so vis­it the Roy­al Col­lege of Art and De­sign and sev­er­al award-win­ning stu­dios in Lon­don.
