As this country moves towards implementing total digital transformation, a team from T&T is currently in India to develop projects for implementation.

This was revealed on Friday by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Amery Browne as he delivered remarks at the 75th Republic Day of the Republic of India celebrations hosted by the Indian High Commission.

The reception was held at the Mahatma Ghandi Institute of Cultural Cooperation in San Juan.

Browne said one of the key areas of collaboration currently advanced by T&T with India is that of information communications technology and digital transformation.

He said in August 2023, Hassel Bacchus, Minister of Digital Transformation, led a technical mission to India to learn from that country’s experience in the provision of digital government services, which led to the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding in Cooperation in the field of sharing successful digital solutions implemented at population scale for digital transformation between the Ministry of Digital Transformation and its counterpart Ministry in the Government of India.

“A follow up technical mission from T&T is currently in India to develop projects for implementation under this Memorandum of Understanding. Given that digital transformation is one of the priorities of the Government of T&T,” Browne said.

He added that he is looking forward to continued collaboration with the Government of India “to enhance the capacity of our local information and communications technology sector.”

Meanwhile, last week Minister Browne said he was pleased Mexico obtained a favourable court ruling in its lawsuit against gun manufacturers and distributors.

The lawsuit was filed on August 4, 2021 against gun manufacturers and distributors whose business practices facilitate the trafficking of their products into Mexico.

“We are very pleased with this development and have been in close communication with our Mexican counterparts on the progress of the case.

“As we informed previously, Trinidad and Tobago has been supportive of this lawsuit within the context of our national focus and Caricom’s regional focus on reducing the flow of guns from North America, and we did submit an amicus brief in collaboration with several other Caricom member states. I continue to emphasise that the lawsuit is against the private sector gun manufacturers and distributors and not against the US Government,” Browne added.
