The T&T gov­ern­ment is join­ing the in­ter­na­tion­al com­mu­ni­ty in of­fer­ing con­do­lences to the peo­ple of Japan on the as­sas­si­na­tion of for­mer Prime Min­is­ter, Shin­zo Abe.

Min­is­ter of For­eign and CARI­COM Af­fairs Dr Amery Browne told Guardian Me­dia he is sad­dened by the as­sas­si­na­tion of the for­mer Prime Min­is­ter. "Our Prime Min­is­ter Dr Kei­th Christo­pher Row­ley dis­patch­es for­mal con­do­lences to the Gov­ern­ment and peo­ple of Japan to­day, on be­half of the Gov­ern­ment and peo­ple of the Re­pub­lic of Trinidad and To­ba­go," he said.

He said Abe would be re­mem­bered in the re­gion for his ef­forts in help­ing it de­vel­op.

"I have dis­cussed the mat­ter with fel­low For­eign Min­is­ters of the Caribbean Com­mu­ni­ty, and I join with my peers in re­mem­ber­ing the ser­vice of Japan's longest-serv­ing Prime Min­is­ter, who had a par­tic­u­lar in­ter­est and con­nec­tion with the de­vel­op­ing world in­clud­ing our re­gion," he said.

"Sin­cere con­do­lences to his fam­i­ly, and to all those in Japan and around the world who were pos­i­tive­ly af­fect­ed by his many years of ser­vice."
