Trinidad and Tobago reaffirmed its commitment to cooperation with the Republic of India during the AI Impact Summit 2026 held from 18-20 February in India.
Dominic Smith, Minister of Public Administration and Artificial Intelligence, represented Trinidad and Tobago at the Summit. The event convened Heads of Government, Ministers, technology executives, and policy leaders to examine the impact of artificial intelligence on governance, economic resilience, and sustainable development.
Smith’s participation focused on collaboration in large-scale digital transformation of public services, development of secure digital infrastructure, ethical AI adoption frameworks, and sovereign data governance.
India’s digital identity systems, payment ecosystems, and national AI strategies provided insights for Trinidad and Tobago’s AI initiatives. The engagement created avenues for knowledge exchange, technical cooperation, and institutional capacity-building.
During the Summit, Smith held discussions with representatives from the Governments of the United Arab Emirates, the United States, several African nations, and Switzerland. Senior leaders from the global technology sector also participated. The discussions explored collaboration in AI governance, cybersecurity, data protection, and innovation ecosystems.
Smith stated, “For small states, digital transformation must be deliberate, sovereign, and partnership-driven. Our strengthened engagement with India signals our resolve to build secure digital infrastructure, advance ethical AI adoption, and position Trinidad and Tobago as a serious technology partner globally.”
The Ministry’s participation reinforces Trinidad and Tobago’s role as a regional technology hub and its commitment to international cooperation that accelerates innovation while safeguarding national interests.
