Thun­der­storm ac­tiv­i­ty is ex­pect­ed to­day as Trinidad and To­ba­go has been placed un­der a YEL­LOW LEV­EL Ad­verse Weath­er Alert by the Trinidad and To­ba­go Me­te­o­ro­log­i­cal Ser­vice (TTMS).

The alert was ac­ti­vat­ed at 5:00 am to­day, Fri­day 15 Ju­ly, and will re­main in ef­fect un­til 6:00 pm.

Met Ser­vice fore­cast­ers ad­vise that pe­ri­ods of rain and/or show­ers of vary­ing in­ten­si­ties are ex­pect­ed from ear­ly morn­ing to­day, start­ing with south­ern parts of Trinidad, due to a com­bi­na­tion of the In­ter-Trop­i­cal Con­ver­gence Zone (ITCZ) and ap­proach­ing Trop­i­cal Waves.

Fore­cast­ers warn there is al­so a high (70%) chance of thun­der­storm ac­tiv­i­ty, with these thun­der­storms pro­duc­ing in­tense rain­fall in ex­cess of 25 mm.

Gusty winds in ex­cess of 55 km/hr may be ex­pe­ri­enced es­pe­cial­ly in the vicin­i­ty of show­ers/thun­der­storms to­day, the Met Ser­vice points out. As such, the pub­lic is ad­vised to se­cure loose out­door items and live­stock.

In ad­di­tion, be­cause street/flash flood­ing and lo­cal­ized pond­ing are al­so like­ly in heavy down­pours, the Met Ser­vice is urg­ing the pub­lic to avoid wad­ing or dri­ving through flood wa­ters.

Seas can be­come ag­i­tat­ed at times in shel­tered ar­eas, so coastal and ma­rine in­ter­ests are asked to take all nec­es­sary pre­cau­tions.
