A Hazardous Seas Alert/YELLOW Level has been activated for Trinidad and Tobago and will remain in effect until 11:00 am on Monday 27 September 2021.  An advisory from the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS) says the alert was activated at 4:00 am today, Friday September 24th.

The Met Service advisory notes that northerly high energy swells are expected to impact northern and western nearshore coastlines of Trinidad and Tobago and warns these swells can result in high surfs and occasional battering waves.

The public is advised to monitor sea conditions and exercise caution in nearshore areas, and especially to be on the alert for large waves in the area of interest, namely the northern and western nearshore coastlines of Trinidad and Tobago.  In addition, persons using beaches are advised to follow the instructions of lifeguards.

Meanwhile, the Met Service assures that Tropical Storm Sam, which was upgraded to a hurricane earlier today, poses no direct threat to Trinidad, Tobago, Grenada and its Dependencies, and there are no watches or warnings in effect at this time concerning this system.
