From 5:00 am tomorrow (Wednesday, October 5), Trinidad and Tobago and surrounding marine areas will be under an Adverse Weather Alert / YELLOW Level, which will remain in effect until Noon on Friday 7 October 2022.
According to an advisory issued by the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS), periods of rain and/or showers of varying intensities are expected from early Wednesday morning—commencing over Tobago and eastern areas of Trinidad—as an active tropical wave traverses westward over our area.
Met Service forecasters warn of a high (70%) chance of heavy showers and thunderstorms that can produce intense rainfall in excess of 25 millimetres.
“Gusty winds in excess of 55 kilometres per hour may be experienced especially in the vicinity of heavy showers/thunderstorms,” the Met Service advisory warns. “Street/flash flooding and localized ponding also are likely in heavy downpours. Seas can become agitated at times in sheltered areas. Landslides/landslips are also possible in areas so prone.”
The Met Service urges members of the public to avoid wading or driving through flood waters. In addition, the public is encouraged to secure loose outdoor items and livestock, as well as to continue monitoring weather conditions and official updates from the Met Service (www.metoffice.gov.tt) and the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Management (www.odpm.gov.tt)
With regard to the weather forecast for the remainder of Tuesday, October 3, the Met Service forecasters say:
“Cloudy spells accompanied by light to moderate showers will interrupt hot and sunny conditions. There is also a medium (40-60%) chance of isolated heavy showers or thunderstorms occurring. Tonight will be fair at first with cloudiness and showers likely after midnight. Gusty winds and street flooding may occur near heavy showers/thunderstorms.”
