T&TEC Marabella closed for sanitisation after suspected COVID case visits branch

The Trinidad and To­ba­go Elec­tric­i­ty Com­mis­sion (T&TEC) has closed its Mara­bel­la branch as a pre­cau­tion­ary mea­sure af­ter a sus­pect­ed COVID case vis­it­ed the ser­vice cen­tre.


T&TEC of­fi­cials stat­ed that med­ical au­thor­i­ties con­tact­ed the branch about the sus­pect­ed case, how­ev­er, they were not in­struct­ed to close the branch.


In a press re­lease is­sued this af­ter­noon, T&TEC stat­ed that to en­sure the safe­ty of em­ploy­ees and cus­tomers the Com­mis­sion took a de­ci­sion to close the Ser­vice Cen­tre to per­form the nec­es­sary san­i­ti­za­tion.

The cen­tre will re-open to­mor­row on Ju­ly 29th.

The Trinidad and To­ba­go Elec­tric­i­ty Com­mis­sion (T&TEC) has been ad­vised by the med­ical au­thor­i­ties that a sus­pect­ed Covid-19 case had vis­it­ed the Mara­bel­la Ser­vice Cen­tre. It should be not­ed, that the med­ical per­son­nel did not in­struct the clo­sure of the Ser­vice Cen­tre.

How­ev­er, out an abun­dance of cau­tion and com­mit­ment to our em­ploy­ees and cus­tomers of en­sur­ing that prop­er health and safe­ty mea­sures are ad­hered to, the Com­mis­sion took a de­ci­sion to close the Ser­vice Cen­tre to per­form the nec­es­sary san­i­ti­za­tion pri­or to re­open­ing to­mor­row – 29th Ju­ly, 2020.

T&TEC con­tin­ues to ad­here to the pro­to­cols as out­lined by the Min­istry of Health to lim­it the spread of the virus among staff and be­tween mem­bers of the pub­lic.

This in­cludes the in­stal­la­tion of phys­i­cal bar­ri­ers, hand wash sinks and san­i­tiz­ing liq­uid dis­pensers; the use of in­frared ther­mome­ters to screen all per­son (em­ploy­ees and the pub­lic) en­ter­ing build­ings and the dis­tri­b­u­tion of masks and re­lat­ed PPE to all staff for use on the job.

T&TEC is du­ty bound to pro­vide a safe and re­li­able elec­tric­i­ty sup­ply to cit­i­zens of this coun­try and con­tin­ues to li­aise with the Min­istry of Health to en­sure that its safe­ty mea­sures are in keep­ing with their stan­dards for the pro­tec­tion of em­ploy­ees and the pub­lic.
