The Trinidad and Tobago Postal Corporation (TTPOST) has referred a video circulating on social media to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) for investigation, calling the footage “misleading” and “deliberately created to misinform.”

The video in question shows electoral poll cards scattered on what appears to be a sidewalk and alleges that TTPOST delivery personnel were responsible for discarding them. However, TTPOST has firmly denied these claims, stating that an internal review found no evidence linking the cards to its staff.

In a statement, the corporation said it believes the content was “intentionally crafted to erode public trust in the postal system during a critical electoral period”, just days ahead of the April 28 General Election.

TTPOST confirmed that it has formally requested the TTPS to investigate the origin and intent of the video and determine whether any offences have been committed under the country’s laws.

The organisation also reaffirmed its commitment to secure mail delivery, especially for sensitive items such as electoral poll cards. According to the Corporation, all such mail is logged, tracked, and handled by designated officers under strict supervision, with any breach of protocol resulting in immediate disciplinary action.

Describing the situation as a “deliberate attempt to damage TTPOST’s credibility”, the Corporation expressed concern over the reputational impact on its employees.

“TTPOST remains committed to transparency, accountability, and the continued delivery of trusted service to the people of Trinidad and Tobago,” the statement concluded.
