The police service has issued a statement debunking what it calls false news after graphic pictures began circulating of a shark being found and cut open with body parts falling out.
Below is the full statement from the TTPS:
The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service is reminding members of the public to be cautious of false information sent via social media, which can cause unnecessary panic and anxiety.
FACT 1: Photos circulating on social media showing human remains inside a dead shark did not originate from Trinidad and Tobago.
FACT 2: The persons seen in the photo bringing the dead shark ashore, are not members of the Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard
FACT 3: Two fishermen; 30-year-old Jason Baptiste and 19-year-old Justin Kissoon, still remain missing at sea.
Members of the public are advised to check and stay updated with TTPS Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages for accurate information on matters relating to crime, policing and of national interest.
