The Munroe Road SDMS Hindu School at Cunupia re-opened for classes on Tuesday.
School was closed abruptly on Monday following the murder of Ronnie Pierre, a man who was squatting on state lands just north of the school. Gunmen drove alongside the school’s fence and fired several shots at Pierre while another man who was on the compound was chopped and managed to flee the scene.
Sources close to the school said Pierre had been squatting on the land since 2017, two years after the school was opened. The source said four persons from the school’s support services met with students. The source said 284 students attended classes out of the population of 381 since many parents were still concerned about the safety issues at the school.
The PTA also met with principal Rishi Maharaj and police from the Canine and Mounted Branch visited the school and offered to bring the animals to the schools to interact with the students.
