Seventeen years after the murder of Kevin St John, the case has been solved by the Homicide Bureau of Investigations Cold Case Unit.

According to police reports around 12.05 am on May 7th, 2006 Kevin St John, 21, also called Al Capone, of Union Road, Four Roads, Diego Martin was fatally shot while he was at an all-fours lime at Jerry Street, Blue Basin Road, Diego Martin.

The matter was investigated by Homicide Bureau of Investigations (HBI) officers Region I who the T&T Police Service (TTPS) exhausted all avenues available to them at that time. The matter was then referred to the HBI, Cold Case Unit for assessment.

However, a major crack in the case came when the file was reviewed by Cold Case Specialist Kirk Griffith who generated an extensive report with recommendations and a clinical approach was taken to bring closure to the matter.

The investigators of the unit pieced evidence together and on May 23rd Kelly Shawn Allert was arrested.

The proprietor appeared virtually before a Port-of-Spain Magistrates’ Court on May 29th charged with the murder of St John.

The 41-year-old Allert, of Akal Extension Road, Santa Cruz was remanded and is expected to reappear on June 26th.
