The in­ves­ti­ga­tion in­to the killing of in­mate Brent Bap­tiste dur­ing a vi­o­lent fight at the Max­i­mum Se­cu­ri­ty Prison, Gold­en Grove, ear­li­er this month, is still un­der­way.

Deputy Com­mis­sion­er of Po­lice, In­tel­li­gence and In­ves­ti­ga­tions, Suzette Mar­tin yes­ter­day said the Homi­cide Bu­reau along with the North Cen­tral Di­vi­sion­al CID of­fi­cers were con­tin­u­ing to gath­er ev­i­dence – and ac­cord­ing to her, “Charges will be laid as soon as the in­ves­ti­ga­tion is com­plet­ed.”

Bap­tiste, 39, was stabbed sev­er­al times on April 5, dur­ing a fra­cas al­leged­ly in­volv­ing mem­bers of war­ring gangs at the MSP.

Bap­tiste, who lived at Plai­sance Road, John John, was pro­nounced dead at the prison in­fir­mary hours af­ter the in­ci­dent.

He had been serv­ing a five-year term on a charge of wound­ing with in­tent fol­low­ing an in­ci­dent at Bournes Road, St James, back in 2006.

Bap­tiste al­so had an­oth­er mat­ter pend­ing fol­low­ing his ar­rest in Feb­ru­ary 2024, af­ter he was al­leged­ly found with a firearm and 11 rounds of am­mu­ni­tion.
