Media Ambassador for the Police Service, ASP Owie Russell, says the TTPS welcomes the appointment of Roger Alexander as the Minister of Homeland Security.
Alexander, who is now the Member of Parliament for Tunapuna, was sworn in last Saturday.
The Ministry of National Security has been split into two divisions by under new administration led by Prime Minister Kamla Persad Bissessar.
During an interview on today’s edition of CNC3’s The Morning Brew show, ASP Russell said officers are looking forward to working with Minister Alexander.
“He knows the hardships of the police officers. He understands our resource issue. And most importantly, he understands our remuneration issue,” the TTPS Media Ambassador said.
“We see him as a bit of fresh air, and a [source of] hope going forward, [even as] a big brother somewhat, championing the cause of the officers,” he added.
ASP Russell also believes that Minister Alexander’s experience as a senior police officer will augur well for national security.
“We see him as somebody suitable based on the recency of his association with the organisation. Up to six weeks ago, he was a police officer at the rank of Senior Superintendent. So, we stand by to see his ideas, and to execute the mandate,” he said.
Roger Alexander MP will share the responsibility for national security matters with Member of Parliament for Toco-Sangre Grande, Wayne Surge, who has been sworn in as Minister of Defense.
