A 25-year-old man, Tyrese Thomas of La Guira Gardens, Matura, appeared virtually before the Sangre Grande Magistrates’ Court after being charged with six firearm offences following a shooting incident in Matura.
Police stated that around 12:40 p.m. on 28 January 2025, a 42-year-old labourer was driving into La Guira Gardens when he saw two men.
The men allegedly began shooting at his vehicle, prompting the driver to flee and report the incident to the Matura Police Station.
Following investigations, Thomas was charged with shooting with intent, possession of a firearm, possession of ammunition, possession of a firearm to endanger life, possession of ammunition to endanger life, and discharging a firearm within 40 metres of a roadway.
During the court hearing on 3 February 2025, Master Kaleisha Ambrose-Persadsingh denied him bail. The case has been adjourned to 8 August 2025.
