TTPS: Priority Offender Denied Bail After Matura Shooting

A 25-year-old man, Tyrese Thomas of La Guira Gar­dens, Matu­ra, ap­peared vir­tu­al­ly be­fore the San­gre Grande Mag­is­trates’ Court af­ter be­ing charged with six firearm of­fences fol­low­ing a shoot­ing in­ci­dent in Matu­ra.

Po­lice stat­ed that around 12:40 p.m. on 28 Jan­u­ary 2025, a 42-year-old labour­er was dri­ving in­to La Guira Gar­dens when he saw two men.

The men al­leged­ly be­gan shoot­ing at his ve­hi­cle, prompt­ing the dri­ver to flee and re­port the in­ci­dent to the Matu­ra Po­lice Sta­tion.

Fol­low­ing in­ves­ti­ga­tions, Thomas was charged with shoot­ing with in­tent, pos­ses­sion of a firearm, pos­ses­sion of am­mu­ni­tion, pos­ses­sion of a firearm to en­dan­ger life, pos­ses­sion of am­mu­ni­tion to en­dan­ger life, and dis­charg­ing a firearm with­in 40 me­tres of a road­way.

Dur­ing the court hear­ing on 3 Feb­ru­ary 2025, Mas­ter Kaleisha Am­brose-Per­sads­ingh de­nied him bail. The case has been ad­journed to 8 Au­gust 2025.
