Two men were arrested and a firearm seized following an armed robbery at a mini mart in Chaguanas today.
The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) said the arrests were made after a coordinated response by officers of the Central Division Task Force (Area North) following a report of a robbery with aggravation at a business place along La Clave Street, Edinburgh 500, Chaguanas.
Police said the incident occurred at approximately 12:55 p.m. Preliminary enquiries revealed that two suspects arrived at the mini mart in a silver Toyota Aqua.
According to the TTPS, the driver remained inside the vehicle while the other suspect, who was armed with a firearm, entered the establishment and announced a robbery.
Police said the suspect discharged two shots before stealing a quantity of cash from the proprietor. The two men then fled the scene in the waiting vehicle.
Officers quickly coordinated with other police units, leading to the interception of the suspect vehicle along Madhoo Trace, Carlsen Field, a short time later.
A search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of a black pistol loaded with 10 rounds of 9mm ammunition, along with a pair of registration plates and several items of clothing believed to have been worn during the commission of the offence.
The two suspects were arrested and taken into police custody as investigations continue.
The TTPS said the swift response was part of ongoing efforts by law enforcement officers to respond to reports of serious crimes and remove illegal firearms from communities.
