Officers of the Southern Division Emergency Response Patrol (ERP) arrested two suspects and seized two firearms following a report of robbery with violence in the Princes Town district.
Police said a driver was operating a white Subaru for hire around 8.35 pm on Wednesday when he picked up five men along Naparima Mayaro Road. The men requested a trip to Borde Narve. On reaching Inverness Road, one suspect produced a firearm and announced a robbery.
The driver was robbed of a cellular phone, cash and the vehicle.
A report was made and ERP officers intercepted the vehicle in the Ste Madeleine district shortly after. Police said one suspect pointed a firearm and fired a shot at officers. Officers returned fire in keeping with the Use of Force Policy. No injuries were reported.
Two Venezuelan nationals, ages 22 and 24, were arrested. Three suspects escaped.
Police seized two pistols at the scene.
The Southern Division Task Force, with support from the Air Support Unit and other division units, carried out searches for the remaining suspects. No further arrests were made.
