The murder toll continued to rise following a fatal shooting in Carenage yesterday.
The incident, which occurred around 7 am at Upper Abbe Poujade Road, Scorpion Alley, Carenage, left 30-year-old Ronald Joseph dead.
Police said Joseph was standing on the road near his home when he was approached by a masked man who shot him several times.
As the gunman fled on foot, the injured man ran a short distance before collapsing. Joseph died at the scene.
No official motive has been determined.
Investigators were told of an ongoing conflict between two groups in the area, and Joseph’s killing is believed to be linked to it.
In a separate incident on School Street, Enterprise, Chaguanas, a man identified as Joseph Narcis died following an altercation with another individual.
The incident occurred around 8 am in full view of several people, who attempted to separate the two during their physical altercation.
A video posted on social media showed Narcis, armed with a cutlass, running towards another man and attempting to chop him.
The other man defended himself and later reportedly stabbed Narcis several times with a knife during the confrontation.
The man eventually grabbed the cutlass and ran into a nearby yard, while Narcis ran off. Narcis later died at hospital. — Anna-Lisa Paul
