Two po­lice of­fi­cers at­tached to the East­ern Di­vi­sion were each grant­ed bail in the sum of $250,000, with a sure­ty, af­ter they ap­peared be­fore Mag­is­trate Cheron Raphael at the San­gre Grande Mag­is­trates’ Court yes­ter­day.

In a me­dia re­lease, the TTPS said In­spec­tor Deyal Ram­lakhan and Spe­cial Re­serve Po­lice Of­fi­cer Cleon Smith were both charged with Mis­be­hav­iour in Pub­lic Of­fice to wit: Cor­rupt­ly Ap­pro­pri­at­ing for Them­selves, the sum of $12,297.

It is al­leged that the of­fi­cers mis­ap­pro­pri­at­ed sums of mon­ey seized as an ex­hib­it in an on­go­ing mat­ter. They are ex­pect­ed to reap­pear in court on Tues­day, Sep­tem­ber 26, 2023.

On Wednes­day, March 15, 2023, a re­port was made to the Pro­fes­sion­al Stan­dard Bu­reau (PSB) about the miss­ing mon­ey.

An in­ves­ti­ga­tion was con­duct­ed, which re­sult­ed in the ar­rest of the two of­fi­cers. An au­di­ence

was held with Di­rec­tor of Pub­lic Pros­e­cu­tion Roger Gas­pard S.C. who ad­vised that both men be joint­ly charged. The TTPS al­so said, “Fur­ther to a vi­ral so­cial me­dia video in which Po­lice Of­fi­cers al­leged­ly seized cash at a busi­ness place, an in­ves­ti­ga­tion was launched by the Pro­fes­sion­al Stan­dards Bu­reau which led to the ar­rest of nine of­fi­cers on April 14, 2023.”

Sev­en of the of­fi­cers have since been re­leased, pend­ing fur­ther in­ves­ti­ga­tions.
