An employee of the Click and Go Department, PriceSmart, Movietowne, Invaders Bay, Mucurapo was arrested on October 1, after he was found with a quantity of items from the store which he could not account for.
Police said the employee was held after a security guard observed him standing next to a trolley in one of the aisles, which contained items including one car jump starter valued at $699.95; one Monster XX bluetooth speaker worth $1995.95; one pack of JVC earbuds valued at $699.95; and one Samsung A55G cellphone costing $2799.95.
After reviewing CCTV footage recorded at 2 pm on Tuesday, the guard confronted the employee around 4.35 pm, after the suspect was seen wheeling the trolley out to his car, following which he loaded the items into the trunk.
After requesting the receipt for the items, the guard detained the suspect when he was unable to produce it as he believed the items were not paid for.
The guard informed the manager who then accompanied the suspect to the car-park around 7:05 pm and found the items.
The suspect was again unable to produce the receipt for the items and insisted they had been purchased by his sister.
The suspect was later taken to the office whilst checks were made to verify the purchases.
It was later confirmed the items were not in fact paid for, and the suspect was subsequently detained by security and taken to the St James Police Station where he was handed over to officers.
And in a separate incident at PriceSmart, Chaguanas, between noon and 2 pm on September 26, a senior official reported a cashier did five cash transactions for a quantity of items.
Sometime after, an audit was conducted and it was revealed that no cash or visa payments were collected for the said items amounting to $72,274.59.
The woman has since been arrested.
